Lumbago is defined as pain in the back below the ribs and above the buttocks with or without radiating pain; there may als be associated problems. To specify the pain, the effects of somatic, psychological and social factors are taken into consideration when looking at the development of the disorder, how long it has persisted as well as its diagnosis and treatment.
Lumbago can be classified based on the criteria cause, duration, severity and chronification stage.
What is back pain?
Back pain is a protective shield against conflicts!
Acute back pain ( less than 6 weeks) temporale protects the back. It has been shown that if the underlying conflict, e.g. at the workplace, is identified, back pain can be resolved by a combination of physiotherapy and mediation between the relevant parties at the workplace.
Chronic back pain does not have such protective function.
Chronic pain is a process whereby the suffer adjusts to a disorder lasting more than 12 weeks. Social and work situations have to be modified.
